when i was in thailand i was psyched to check out "legit" pad thai. i was disappointed. i find the pad thai at thai restaurants in america is better than the real deal.
has anyone else experienced this?
do you think that the thai chefs in america bastardize the noodley treat to cater to our american tastes?

Re: pad thai in thailand
Mon, September 27, 2004 - 11:12 PMHaving lived there ....... Yes the flavors are a bit different ........ often its like thinking you are eating chinese food when you go to a chinese restaurant in North America ........ majority of the dishes do taste different.
Go to Bangkok and go to a place called "Cabbages and Condoms" its on Soi 12 on Sukhumvit road ...... great stuff ........ Most of the really good places for Phad Thai there are little mom and pop kind of restaurants on the side sois.

Tue, September 28, 2004 - 1:29 AMCabbages is a way cool place . it is run by an organization that supports population control and the entire decor is given over to funny condom posters and vasectomy kits.
Another really cool place is "Coffee Bean"
